Teenager Darryl doesn’t mind listening to the jokes from his mates as he makes his way in crown green bowling.

The Holy Cross student only took up the sport recently but has already made his Lancashire debut after proving a hit.

But he has had to listen to the ‘old man’s sport’ digs from his mates.

“They do say that and have a bit of a laugh about it but I don’t mind,” said the 15-year-old.

“I really enjoy it. I had nothing to do one Friday, I went to St George’s Bowling Club in Chorley and gave it a try and got into it. It’s peaceful and balanced and I like it as, while it can be a team sport, it’s also down to you.

“My coach at St George’s received a text to say I had been called up to Lancashire Youth team and I couldn’t believe it, it’s quite an honour.

“I made my debut in Newcastle for my county this month and it was a good moment.”

Darryl’s granddad plays crown green bowls and his dad is now a coach as he supports his son in his sport.

Darryl also enjoys karate and archery but this is his new found-love.

“I went to watch crown green bowling at the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh and I would like to play regionally and see where it takes me.”
