There were baguettes, crepes and chorizo as Holy Cross celebrated European Day of Languages.

“This day is where we celebrate the importance of learning other languages,” said Modern Foreign Languages teacher Ms Marcroft.

“It is an opportunity to discover and learn about different cultures and identities, ensuring tolerance in our community.”

The activities at the Chorley school included a French breakfast,  a taster table at lunch offering a wide variety of European delights from crepes to Spanish lollipops Chupa Chups to French drinks and Spanish chorizo.

“It’s always popular with the students,” continued Ms Marcroft. “We also produced a video showing different people speaking a wide range of languages while staff also tested their bilingual skills with a quiz.

“We had great GCSE results this year in our languages and we actively encourage them, with regular enrichment trips to France, Spain and Germany to give students a chance to use their languages outside of the classroom and experience the culture in the country.”
