Holy Cross awards evening for Year 11 leavers 2015

Megan was the star of the show as she won the Matthew Gibbons Memorial Award at the Holy Cross awards evening for last year’s Year 11s.

The award is in memory of a former Holy Cross pupil who died in a traffic accident and his parents wanted it awarded for a true all-rounder at the school.

Megan, 16, was presented with the trophy as she took part in a number of sports from Year Seven-11, she was involved in last year’s production of Oliver!, she also took part in the school’s Strictly Come Dancing charity event as well as being a senior prefect and on the school council. Added to this she achieved excellent GCSE results.

Megan is now at Runshaw College studying Business, Maths, English Literature and Psychology with her aim to be a corporate lawyer.

“I can’t believe I won the main award,” said Megan. “It’s a real honour. I had no idea and I was shaking when I went up to collect it. Coming back to school has brought back great memories. I do miss it.”

Joshua Burns won the Jonathan Hutchings Award for the Work Related Student of the Year which is for a student who excels in vocational qualifications and work placements at Holy Cross.

The Academic Excellence Awards went to James Utley with nine A*s and two As in his GCSEs and Corinne Campbell with 10 A*s and two As.

HX awards

Outstanding Progress Awards were given to Lucy Pendlebury, who was predicted Cs in her early years at Holy Cross but showed determination to get two As, five Bs and two Cs.

Rob Livingstone also picked up an Outstanding Progress Award as he showed commitment to work his way up the sets and finished with two A*s, five As, two Bs and two Cs.

Director of Childrens’ Services for Lancashire County Council Bob Stott, who presented the awards and once worked in Chorley, said: “Holy Cross have prepared these children to go into the rest of the century, they have great potential and I am sure they will excel.”
