Boxing Event Takes Place at Holy Cross

18 December 2018

Holy Cross’s gym turned into a boxing hall for the day as former student Michael Jennings put on a show.

Michael is a former English, British and WBU International Welter-Weight title holder who now owns Jennings Gym in Chorley.

His son Mikey, a student at Holy Cross, was on the bill and he hopes to follow in the footsteps of his dad.

“It was my first real fight,” said Mikey, 13. “I boxed when I was younger but only decided to take it up again 12 weeks ago after watching a show.

“I have had a skills fight previously and this was my first real fight, at weight 64kg at Under 13 category and I won in the first round,” said Mikey.

“I don’t feel the pressure with my dad, I just want to gain more confidence with every fight and see where it takes me.

“I also enjoy football, I play for the school and am a striker at Charnock Richards so I am still deciding between the two!”
