End of Year Update and Arrangements

5 July 2019

Dear Parents, Carers and Friends of Holy Cross

As we approach the end of the school year I write firstly to thank you for your support for Holy Cross throughout this year.

Hellos and Goodbyes

As usual at this time of year we say goodbye to some colleagues who are moving on to new posts: Miss Brindle (Maths), Mrs Brinkhuijsen (MFL), Miss Buchanan (PE), Mr Callaghan (TA English), Mrs Davy (Science), Mrs Eyre (History), Mr Langan (Geography), and Miss Maxwell (English). We wish them well in their new schools. Two colleagues are retiring after many years of service to our school: Mrs Macgowan (Science) and Mr Smith (Business Manager). We wish them a long, healthy and happy retirement.

In September we will welcome Miss Barker (PE), Miss Bentham (Design Technology), Mrs Blakeman (RE), Miss Collins (Science), Mrs Cull (Maths), Miss Dent (PE), Mr Joynson (Cover Supervisor), Mrs Kearsley (Science), Miss Mcfarland (Geography), Mrs Phillips (English), and Mrs Whiteway (MFL).

Non Uniform Dress Code

For the last day of term, rewards trips and some other events, pupils may wear their own clothes. However, their footwear must be appropriate for the activities they may be involved in and pupils should dress appropriately for school activities ie no mid-riff showing and shorts not too short. The final judgement about what is appropriate rests with the school.

Head of School

For the next Academic year Mr McFarlane will be designated Head of School to facilitate Mr Gaughan doing some work in another Archdiocesan school for two days a week. This is for one year only.

Friends of Holy Cross

Money raised by the Friends of Holy Cross has paid for improvements to our sports facilities this year. The money raised by this group is vital to us in making up for some of the shortfall in real terms school funding.

On behalf of the whole school community, thank you to the Friends of Holy Cross. Any parents who wish to help our small but dedicated team, or anyone wishing to join the 100 Club, can make contact with the Friends of Holy Cross through our website.

Non-Uniform Day – Pupils may wear their own clothes if they pay £1.00 towards school charities. This must be paid by Monday 15 July. School closes at 12.30 pm; school buses are arranged for that time.

Uniform

When we attend events with other schools people often comment both on how well-mannered our pupils are and how smart they look. Please have a look at the full uniform list on the website. Skirts should be worn just above the knee and shoes should be plain black leather with no logos or labels. Please ensure your child does not have a haircut below a number two.

Uniform is available from Jada Uniform Shop on Eaves Lane in Chorley, and also from this summer we have a new supplier, Andrew Leach on Lee Lane in Horwich. As this is a new supplier, stocks may be limited initially and we advise you to phone ahead to check availability. The telephone number is (01204) 697624.

The Bowers

We still have some concerns about safety on the Bowers at the start and end of the school day; there have been a number of near accidents due to more parents dropping off and picking up pupils. We ask that parents stop driving up the Bowers; all vehicles collecting and depositing children should use the vehicular entrance off Myles Standish Way or drop/collect away from the Bowers entrance. We greatly appreciate your support in helping to keep our pupils safe.

Results

Year 11 can collect their GCSE results on Thursday 22 August between 9.00 am – 10.30 am.

September

School reopens for all pupils on Wednesday 4 September 2019 at 8.50 am.

And finally….

On behalf of all the staff and governors I thank you for your continued support and wish you a safe, sunny and happy summer.

Yours faithfully

Mr I Gaughan – Headteacher
