A millionaire four times over!

28 February 2018

When you are a millionaire four times over you have plenty of reasons to smile.

Holy Cross student Connor has read 40 books since September – which means he has read a staggering 4,002,378 words.

“He has passed every quiz he’s taken on every book and his average quiz score is 92%,” said Library Manager Ms Rushton. “He reads on average three hours a day which is a phenomenal amount.”

“I just love reading,” said Connor. “My mum has to tell me to turn my light off at bedtime!
“My favourite books are by Percy Jackson or the Shadow Hunters series. I am really proud I have read so many.”

Twelve other pupils have read over one million words, with three in Year Nine, three in Year Eight and six in Year Seven – including Year Seven Joseph who has read two million words.

All Key Stage Three pupils take part in the Accelerated Reading Scheme at Holy Cross, where pupils take quizzes on the books they have read to check their understanding and boost literacy skills.

“We encourage pupils to read for pleasure and Accelerated Reader is a fantastic way of helping young people to choose books they want to read that are also appropriate for their reading level. I am really proud that Holy Cross already have 14 word millionaires this year!” added Ms Rushton.
