Dancing teachers!

13 September 2018

Two Holy Cross teachers are putting their best feet forward and competing in Strictly Come Dancing for Bury Hospice.

Head of Technology Miss Moore and PE teacher Mr Stokes will be putting on their sequins and strutting their stuff in a bid to win the Glitterball.

It was Miss Moore’s idea and she is competitive – especially after winning Holy Cross’s charity version of Strictly last year.

“I am from Bury and Bury Hospice is my local hospice,” said Miss Moore. “My grandad and dad both had cancer so it is something which is close to me and you never know when you may need a hospice.

“They advertised for dancers for their Strictly event and I thought ‘why not?’

“My aunty actually used to teach at a dance school in Bury called Taskers and I danced there from a young age so I do have something of a dancing background.

“I am quite tall and so when I turned up at a rehearsal I didn’t have a partner so I persuaded Stuart to join in.

“Mr Stokes won Holy Cross’s version of Strictly the year before so we both are in it to win it.”

Mr Stokes competed for Team GB at the London Olympics in the steeplechase.

“We have done Strictly in school a couple of times and, while it is hard work, it is rewarding,” he said.

“It is hard learning the dances, especially as we are doing an Argentine Tango which is tricky, but it’s all good fun and for a good cause.

“We go every Monday for lessons to Touch of Class in Little Lever and the finale is at the Longfield Suite in Bury on December 1st. We already have a table full of Holy Cross teachers supporting us on the night.”

If anyone can donate any quality raffle prizes for the event, please drop them off at Holy Cross reception.
