Open Evening 2018 – In Review

12 October 2018

Holy Cross opened its doors and welcomed prospective pupils and their parents to their new music, science and food technology suites.

Their Open Evening was packed as the recent additions to the building were on show to the public.

Holy Cross underwent a multi-million pound facelift, funded by Lancashire County Council as well as the Archdiocese, starting in 2017.

The new maths and drama block opened last year and two new science labs and a high-technology professional food/catering room opened recently.

There is also a new music suite including class rooms, practice rooms and a recording studio – all fitted with the latest equipment to help the pupils.

“Last year we expanded and took in 30 more pupils in Year Seven, as we did in September this year, and having this extra space and more state-ofthe-art rooms makes the learning experience so much better for pupils at the school and other uses as well,” said Headteacher Mr Gaughan.

“Our food technology department takes part in community initiatives so the new developments will be used by the people of Chorley.

“The development of our science laboratories means we can offer more events for primary schools as well as enhancing our own pupils’ experiences, so it’s an exciting time for Holy Cross.”

The music room has received an electric drum kit and 30 ukuleles in memory of their former pupil Matthew Cogley, who died in 2015.

Matthew was a member of the band Failsafe and, at his funeral, his parents asked for donations which have been used for school equipment.

“We are so proud to have these in Matthew’s memory,” added Mr Gaughan. “The music facilities are second-to-none and our pupils love them.”
