The Holy Cross students both raced at Blackburn in the Lancashire Schools Cross Country Championships earlier this year and finished in the top eight. They will now represent their county in Leeds in March.

Liam, 16, and Imogen, 13, are both members of Preston Harriers.

Liam, who is a track 800m runner, came fifth in the Intermediate Boys at Blackburn and earned himself a Lancashire vest for the second time.
“My main focus is track and cross country was more about building up my strength, I wasn’t sure how I would do but am excited to take part in the English Schools Competition,” said Liam.

“It’s a big season for me, I am at the top of my age group and my aim this year is to qualify and do well in the English Schools Track and Field Championships in July.”

As a Junior Boy two years ago, Liam came second in the English Schools over 800m and, last year as a Year 10, he was ranked fifth in the country over the two lap event.

“I have had niggles over the last year so I am coming back to full fitness and know what I need to do.”

Imogen, 13, is representing Lancashire for the first time at the English Schools Cross-Country Championships in the Junior Girls section.

“It’s a big year for me as well as I have had a couple of injuries, I have gone over on my ankle a couple of times, but hopefully I will stay fit for both events. I want to make the English Schools Track and Field Championships as well.”
