Surprise for Denise

26 September 2019

Holy Cross students said a special happy 70th birthday to SVP co-ordinator Denise Price this week.

Denise was previously involved with Learning Support at Holy Cross until she retired in 2011.

However she never really left the school.

She now works hard as part of the SVP (Saint Vincent De Paul) Group which meets to discuss such activities as organising shoe box appeals at Christmas, coffee mornings and lunches for senior citizens at school, all raising money for charities which have included Friends of Uganda, Teenage Cancer Trust and The Alzheimer’s Society.

It was at this week’s senior citizen’s lunch that staff surprised Denise with a cake made by Holy Cross Attendance Officer Mr Dooley.

“I am still not over it, I am in shock,” said Denise. “I didn’t know anyone knew it was my birthday!”

Denise doesn’t like the spotlight and was keen to thank everyone else.

“I just want to thank the staff and pupils at Holy Cross as well as Tesco and Mr and Mrs Morris’s Bakery for providing bread for our senior citizen’s lunch.”

“Denise works tirelessly for the pupils, the school and the community,” said head teacher Mr Gaughan.

“She is a kind and generous person who will always try to help in any way she can and has a heart of gold.”
