Ascension Day 2020

18 May 2020

On Thursday we celebrate the Ascension of the Lord, remembering that after his death and resurrection he spent just a short time with his disciples and then was taken up to heaven; his earthly ministry was complete and it was time for him to return to the Father. Before he left them, he commissioned his followers to spread the Good News throughout the world: ‘Go and make disciples of all the nations.’ That is the message that is given to us today. It is our responsibility to make sure that people all over the world hear the Good News, that they have the opportunity to know God and to feel the warmth and comfort of his unconditional love.

The Ascension is a Holyday of Obligation. In normal times, those of you who are not able to go to Mass in your parishes would be walking down to St Gregory’s with me to celebrate Mass with the children from the primary school. Mass will be celebrated in St Gregory’s Church at 8:30 and 12 noon and will be streamed live so we can still participate – the link for you to follow is below – I’ll be there and, although I won’t be able to see you, I hope some of you will be there too.
