What is Prevent Duty?
Prevent is part of the governments overall counter terrorism strategy. The aim of Prevent is to reduce the threat from terrorism by stopping people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism.
There are three specific objectives:
- Respond to the ideological challenge of terrorism and the threat we face from those who promote it
- Prevent people from being drawn into terrorism and ensure they are given appropriate advice and support
- Work with sectors and institutions where there are risks of radicalisation
The Government expect that school:
- Ensure staff are aware of and understand the risk of radicalisation
- Staff know how to implement the duty effectively
